C-Section Birth Bag + Birth Toolkit

Planning a C-section birth but only finding lists that are vaginal birth specific? I got you, Mama. Here is a collection of items both suggested by the Kiwi Birth Tales community as well as recommended by me (having had a C-section of my own).

Birth Bag:

  • High-waisted comfy undies (not compression) OR High-waisted disposable adult underwear (you still bleed vaginally after a C-Section).

  • Toms Maternity Pads

  • High-waisted loose pants/pyjamas

  • Your own pillow(s), this is for comfort as the hospital pillows are usually really thin, but also to use to pop baby on when breastfeeding so they don’t touch your incision, if not using a feeding pillow.

  • Drink Bottle.

  • Long phone charger cable.

  • Kiwicrush or similar to help with getting things moving post-birth.

  • Viva La Vulva Ice Packs (specific ones for C-section births).

  • Bunnie Caddie or similar to keep essentials for you in (not for baby, for you) so you aren’t searching around when you’re in pain and you know where everything you want is kept.

  • Easy to slide on shoes e.g. Jandals / Sandals so you aren’t bending down to put them on.

  • Snacks (for post-birth)

  • Lactation support snacks or drinks

  • Silverettes

  • Pure Mama Nipple Butter

  • Hair ties and usual toiletries

  • Breast Pads

  • Any antenatally expressed colostrum

  • Dressing gown

  • Lip balm

  • Maternity / Breastfeeding Bras

Birth Toolkit:

  • Playlist for during the C-Section

  • Language you would prefer your birth team to use

  • Birth preferences (including things like immediate skin-to-skin, if you want the drape lowered, delayed cord clamping, first breastfeeding on the table etc)
