Finding a Midwife

So you’re pregnant (CONGRATULATIONS!) what next? There is a shortage of Midwives so the next step is to find a Midwife who can care for you in your pregnancy. Don’t panic, there are incredible Midwives available to support you but the sooner you know and contact them, the better.

Head to Find Your Midwife online (NZ-based) and pop in your region, refine your search by entering the month you are due and other questions you are asked in the search.

You can call, text or email (in most cases) the Midwife you are interested in working with and it’s best to let them know your estimated due date/month so you can understand their availability.

Some things you might like to talk with them about:

  • Where do you think you’d like to birth (e.g. hospital, birth centre, home birth) and do they support that

  • What is their approach to your care in pregnancy

  • What is important for you to know about them

  • What pain relief methods do they support

  • If you want specific cultural elements in your pregnancy and birth care, how can they support you in those preferences
